As with many of the chapters in Heavy Rain, depending on what decisions you make throughout the game, the ending, plot or even the well-being of the characters can be adversely affected. In order to use these walkthroughs effectively, the walkthrough has been split into paths that have a positive outcome, and paths that are less fortunate.

It may be necessary to read the previous chapters' walkthrough to establish what path you are currently on.

Good Choices WalkthroughEdit

Section One: The QuestioningEdit

  • The chapter opens with private investigator, Scott Shelby, sitting in his car outside a run-down hotel.
  • Follow the on-screen prompt to exit the car, whereby Scott will proceed to enter the hotel.

Alternative Option:

  • Players using the demo of Heavy Rain will instead be lead around the exterior of the hotel, by means of a side alleyway. Follow the directions given, using L1 and R2 when prompted to do so. After learning the ropes and exiting the ally, Scott will enter the hotel.

Continuation:

  • Once inside, the player has the option to speak to the receptionist in the lobby, whom Scott will have to bribe in order to learn the location of Lauren Winter. Alternatively, ignore him and proceed up the stairs located in the corner. Lauren's door is the last door on the left hand side of the corridor.
  • Gain access to Lauren's apartment by either knocking twice, using the on-screen prompts, or by successfully using the Quick Time Event to stop Lauren from closing the door.
  • Once inside, the player learns of Lauren's profession as a prostitute. Mistaking Scott for a customer, she asks him for $50 and proceeds to set a timer to go off after ten minutes.
  • Whether the player leaves $50 on the table or not, this has no outcome.
  • Walk over the Lauren to initiate a small cut-scene in which Scott explains that he is not, in-fact, a client; but a private investigator hired by the families of the victims of the Origami Killer. He wishes to ask Lauren some questions about Johnny Winter, Lauren's son, who died at the hands of the Origami Killer.
  • Lauren, however, isn't very willing to talk, dismissing Scott's questioning. The player must now make careful choices to affect the outcome of this scene.

Important:

  • Certain choices have different outcomes, below the good options are listed, which will result in the player successfully divulging information from Lauren. Players will also receive the trophy 'Private Eye'.
  • Scott will be presented with three choices. Avoid using 'compassionate' as this will aggravate Lauren, instead opt for using 'persist' followed by 'convince' in order to successfully continue.
  • Scott will next be offered the choice to either trick Lauren into giving information, or buying her information. Players who with to successfully receive information about Johnny, must choose the 'trick' option. Failure to do so will change the outcome of the scene.
  • Defeated, Lauren sits down offering to help Scott.
  • The player is offered lots of choices, each relating to Johnny's disappearance. The player has to make informed choices, being sure to pick 'Johnny?' at some point, in order to secure the 'Private Eye' trophy.
  • Depending on the questions asked, Lauren will either get up to smoke a cigarette, or break down into tears. Should she start smoking, no action needs to be taken. If Lauren starts crying however, avoid sitting down next to her. Instead, walk over to the bed side table, on the left of the bed, and pick up the box of tissues. Issue them to Lauren to proceed.
  • After a short while the alarm on the bed side table will sound signifying the end of the session, and hence the end of the questioning. Lauren will not interact with Scott any more.
  • Use this opportunity to leave your business card on the table. Then leave the apartment.

Section Two: TroyEdit

  • After leaving Lauren's apartment, begin to walk down the corridor.
  • By the time Scott reaches the stairs, he will have fallen victim to an asthma attack. Struggling to breathe, the player must locate Scott's inhaler. Follow the on-screen directions to find it, and use R1 to ease Scott's breathing.
  • Meanwhile Troy can be seen walking towards Lauren's apartment in the background.
  • The player now has a moral choice to make. Do you risk placing Scott in harms way, so that you may protect Lauren, a stranger. Or do you simply walk way?
  • Those wishing to follow the 'good' path and earn the trophy 'White Knight' should follow Troy back to Lauren's apartment.
  • Follow the on-screen prompt to knock on the door, which will be answered by Troy. Noticing that Lauren is in trouble, Scott must gain access to the apartment so that he may rescue her. Players can do this either by kicking down the door or by knocking again until Troy opens the door. Follow the on-screen directions to perform either.
  • After forcing his way into the apartment, Scott must now fight off Troy. This is done by successfully completing a series of Quick Time Events. Simply press the corresponding button, to the one shown on-screen, within the time limit. Players may note that if struggling to complete the Quick Time Events, then they will not be penalized (in terms of trophy acquisition) for opting for an easier difficulty settings and are therefore advised to change the difficulty of the game, if required.
  • At some points, within the fight, the game may utilise the Playstation's™ Dualshock™ SIXAXIS™ abilities, requiring the user to rapidly or vigorously move the whole controller up and down. Players should be aware to expect this, and make adequate room to complete the manoeuvre.
  • After successfully beating Troy, he leaves the apartment, threatening Scott whilst doing so.
  • Lauren, now alone with Scott, asks about his well-being. However, having avoided any major injury, Scott is able to leave the apartment virtually unscathed.
  • After leaving the room/hotel, the chapter comes to an end. Player's who were successful in divulging information about Johnny and successfully beat Troy in the fight, will receive the trophies 'Private Eye' and 'White Knight'.

Bad Choices WalkthroughEdit

Section One: The Questioning (Bad)Edit

  • The chapter opens with private investigator, Scott Shelby, sitting in his car outside a run-down hotel.
  • Follow the on-screen prompt to exit the car, whereby Scott will proceed to enter the hotel.

Alternative Option:

  • Players using the demo of Heavy Rain will instead be lead around the exterior of the hotel, by means of a side alleyway. Follow the directions given, using L1 and R2 when prompted to do so. After learning the ropes and exiting the ally, Scott will enter the hotel.

Continuation:

  • Once inside the lobby, ignore the receptionist and instead head straight for the stairs located in the corner of the ground floor.

  • Once inside, the player learns of Lauren's profession as a prostitute. Mistaking Scott to be a client, she asks him to place $50 on a nearby table and sets an alarm clock to sound in ten minutes time.
  • Whether the player leaves $50 on the table or not, there is no noticeable consequence.
  • Guide Scott over to Lauren to initiate a cut-scene, in which Scott explains how he is not a client, but is in-fact a private detective working on behalf of the families of the victims of the infamous Origami Killer.
  • You now must pick compassionate as a choice and you will not get any info.
  • Alternate Choice: You can also try to get a small amount of information and than pick compassionate.
  • Lauren will be infuriated and demand you leave her apartment.

Section Two: Troy (Bad)Edit

Section Two starts the same as the good version. You must take your inhaler as Troy walks past to Laurens room.

  • From here you can make two choices.
  • You can choose to completly ignore it and leave Lauren.
  • You can also Choose to help Lauren but purposesly fail the QTE.
  • Either way is a bad choice and will prevent you from getting the White Knight or Private Eye trophy.
  • Shelby then proceeds to enter his car and leaves.
